For a customer in the printing industry, we have integrated our TM-5 torque motor as a direct drive into a new unwinding and rewinding system. The system is used for the precise winding of paper and film webs that are printed during the process.
The use of the TM-5 has significantly simplified the entire drive concept, as mechanical transmission elements such as gearboxes or belts are completely eliminated. This not only ensures wear-free and low-noise operation, but also absolutely backlash-free power transmission – a decisive factor for consistent print quality. The wide speed range of the torque motor makes it possible to perfectly adapt the winding speed to the changing roll diameter. This ensures consistently stable web tension throughout the entire process. In addition, the integrated torque monitoring protects against breaks and contributes to reliable continuous operation. The large hollow shaft of the TM‑5 also offered the machine manufacturer significant design freedom, for example for media guidance or integrated sensor technology, thereby supporting a particularly compact and efficient machine design.
By using the TM‑5, the customer was able to significantly optimise their system in terms of precision, stability and maintenance-free operation – whilst simultaneously creating the conditions for consistently high print quality.
Requirements:
- Stable and precise web tension throughout the entire winding process
- Reliable torque monitoring to prevent material breakage
- Variable speed depending on the roll diameter
- Maintenance-free drive for high machine availability
- Compact and flexible machine design
